Inside the Book

Kissed by the Cross

In the midst of my grief came a knock at my door.
It was God…He said, “Cry no more.
For you I have a special plan.
Dry your tears. Take my hand.
You’ve been through pain, I know my dear.
But you must know I’ve been near.
You’ve shown your strength in your weakest hours.
This agony has become your power.
I’ve made you strong as steel for me
To share your pain so others see.
They’re not alone ~ you’ve walked this road.
Help me help them bear this load.
My special helper you’ve become.
In Heaven, you’ll sit by my son.
Your tears will turn to the sweetest bliss.
By the cross my dear, you’ve been kissed.”

This poem was inspired by Fr. Martin Lawrence of St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls, SD on the Easter Vigil ~ April of 2006.

——-

The winding river in its solitude and grace
Seduced you with her lucid eye
And you sailed off with her ~
Leaving me a widow in tears
And her laughter upon my back.

——-

Your death has made a day a year
No sunny day the same.
As daybreak finds the world anew
In my soul, your loss remains.

Rewards

Heaven awaits the widows.
Great glory will be theirs.
Earthen pain and tears no more.
To the kingdom they’ll be heirs.
Special graces over them
No others will receive.
For their great sacrifice on earth,
In Heaven, rewards will be.
